Botetourt County Announces New Lieutenant

Fincastle, VA — The Department of Fire & EMS is excited to announce the promotion of Firefighter/Paramedic Darren Rock to the position of Lieutenant. Rock started with the fire and EMS service in 2002 as a volunteer with Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue. From 2004 to 2012, he served in contractual and part-time roles with Botetourt County Emergency Services, both driving as an EMT and assisting with entry-level firefighter training.

He came to the Department of Fire & EMS full-time in 2016, after working for Roanoke County Fire & Rescue for nine years. He achieved certification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic in 2017 and was selected as a fill-in officer for Lieutenant in late 2018.

Rock is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and Emory & Henry College, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy and Community Service. He and his wife Abby live in the Blue Ridge community with their four children.

He will assume his new role on April 29, 2019, as Lieutenant – Shift Officer on B Shift. Please join the department in congratulating Lieutenant Rock on his accomplishment.
